Default Switching secondary professions

When switching secondary professions for a pve char, do you get the skills for that new profession? I noticed the only way I'm getting skills is by questing and if I've already done the quest I can't see how I'd get skills when switching secondary profs.

The only other way to get skills in PVE is to buy them from skill trainers or capping them from bosses. Once a skill is unlocked for your account, you can also use skill books to learn them on other characters.

If you do all the secondary quests available before finalising your secondary class you will have them when you change secondary.

You never lose skills or for that matter an animal companion should you have ranger secondary and later change.
Change back and the companion is there again.

The other thing about skills is that once learned they are unlocked for all characters on that account.
So your heroes can select from a large pool of skills once one of your characters has unlocked them.

You have it all wrong, OP.

Switching the secondary profession simply lets you add the secondary profession's attributes and skills that you already have. So, you can use all skills that you already have, but get no new skills from changing the secondary itself.

Now, to GET those skills in the first place, the default way is to talk to a skill trainer and buy the skill (or a signet of capture that you'll need to get an elite skill from an enemy boss's corpse). Skill quests are a way to get skills without having to pay for them, but not all skills are available from skill quests, and you only really get the skills quests in prophecies - Factions and Nightfall expect you to buy skills instead and give gold and skill points as quest rewards.

You get a starter set of skills when you unlock a new profession at a profession changer. See the Profession Changer article on the wiki for a list of skills. You might already have some or all of these skills, though, if you do secondary training for several professions before selecting your first secondary.

If you are a native Prophecies character, once you've unlocked a new secondary, you can go back and pick up certain quests for that secondary in various outposts in Ascalon and Yak's Bend that will give you more skills. Likewise, a native Factions character can go back to Shing Jea and get additional dojo quests from Instructor Ng for some additional free skills.

If a quest has skill rewards for multiple professions, then you only get the skills for your primary profession and initial secondary profession. You will have to buy the skills for other secondaries from a skill trainer. This is useful if you skipped any of those quests before you unlocked other secondaries, because you can go back and do those quests, selecting the secondary you prefer before claiming the reward.
